ADRIAN NICHOLLS was given a 28-day ban by the BHA disciplinary panel onFriday at a hearing into the results of a urine sample he provided at Ayr on Gold Cup day.

His sample was found to contain alcohol in a concentration above the threshold level permitted under the rules of racing.
Having been found to be in breach of rule (D) 65, Nicholls, who was legally represented at the hearing, was giventhe 28-day ban because the level of alcohol found was 108mg/100ml, which fell within the range of the upper level.
He will be out of action from December 18 to January 17 inclusive.
Nicholls had three rides at Ayr on September 18, including Victoire De Lyphar, who finished second in the William Hill (Ayr) Gold Cup.
Alcohol positives in urine samples are dealt with at two levels by the BHA: the lower level is at or above 54mg per 100ml, while 107mg upwards is the upper level, which has a range of bans from 28 to 60 days with an entry point of 40 days.
