Is it possible to move to the USA without a visa if financially independent

Just wondering if one was financially independent, would it be possible to move to the USA without visa requirements & how much you would think this sum would be ?

Theoretically if I had €500k ($661k at today's rates) in the bank, would I be able to go live there & not have to worry about being on a holiday visa (that is to say, not have to leave the country every 2.5 months) ?

I'm guessing that if you were able to prove that you're not going to be working illegally or be a drain on the country, there would be no issues ?

Or would the sum be larger, maybe $1m+ ?
