Getting my recordings off my UPC box?

I've got the set top box that allows me to record programmes. I'm giving the box back in a couple of weeks but I was hoping to get my recorded films, etc off the box before I give it back. I was wondering does anyone know if it's possible to get the data from the box onto a PC or what format are the recorded programmes in. Is there a conventional HDD in these boxes and would windows or Linux recognise the drive if I hooked it up? The box is Thompson and there's a USB and LAN port on the back. Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Just seen the thread by irishmotorist but I don't have a DVD player/recorder.

The only way is to record them onto a DVD. You cannot hook up a hard drive and copy them, and even if you could somehow get them onto a hard drive i dont think youd be able to view them on your computer.
