where is the source for that

he commentates on the GAA during the summer and does rte radio 1 sports reports

i dont think that could be justified

Narrating a ball being kicked around a field is much more difficult than heart surgery or running an international business so Id say yes. He does deserve it and more if possible.

In a funny way, you have to give the man props for suceeding in a visual media like television whilst looking like the bastard child of ET and ALF.

So in that respect, 400k is a bargain.

Marty wasn't even in the top ten earners and they went down as far as 200k, so this thread appears to be total BS. (Not that thats a shock)

NO - if its accurate its bloody ridiculous.

    100% no.

On a different note, could RTÉ employees be classed as Public servants (as employers are state owned) and thus be subject to the €250k cap? Give some of Pat's million a year to people who bloody well need it, for example?

Fellow sports reporter/commentator George Hamilton was on 220 k in 2008. A bit strange that Marty is on 400k if its true.

200000.... perhaps he's worth it, he does a decent job. 150000 would seem more like it though.

400000...nah, too much. Serious jump there. More than 2 grand a week extra after tax.

200k is still too much money. Usual RTE taking the piss because we legally have to pay for their shite broadcasts

Rumour is actually that he is gay. Just type "marty morrissey.." into google and the predictive thing indicates that others have searched for the truth.

He's worth every penny, RTE can't risk losing him to Duffys Circus.

Don't waste your time people, he will never admit it.

It is buried down the bag of the bog somewhere. He hasn't been able to get at it lately though cos he is too unfit.

Would any of them earn the same money on a commercial station?

    RTE 2009
Former 'Late Late Show' presenter Pat Kenny was RTÉ's highest paid star in 2008, earning €950,976.
The presenter, who now hosts current affairs show 'The Frontline', earned €922, 949 in 2007.

'Ryan Confidential' host Gerry Ryan was the second highest paid star, according to figures released by RTÉ today.

He earned €629,865 in 2008. The previous year the radio star earned €676, 354.

    Marian Finucane earned €470,013 in 2007 - jumping to €570,000 in 2008.

Ryan Tubridy's pay also rose from €366,867 in 2007 to €533,333 in 2008.

The Director General of the BBC and many of the corporations top presenters have been taking serious flak over their salaries recently and are probably soon going to be taking cuts; the BBC represents a population of over 60 million people and also broadcasts to millions more around the world.
These people's salaries are, in many cases, not much more than the salaries being paid to the 'stars' of RTE; who broadcast to a country of 4.5 million or so.
RTE's salaries are so out of whack, it's beyond farcical.

Hey homes, Marty Morrissey is from the block.

    Fo real.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marty_morrissey
Marty Morrissey is a commentator and with the sports department of Ireland's national broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann.[1] Morrissey was born in Mallow, County Cork (where his mother hailed from) but the family returned to their then home of the Bronx, New York shortly afterwards. When he was aged 11, the family returned to Ireland to his father's native home of Clare. Later, Marty went on to study at UCC in Cork and spent some years teaching. In 1988 he entered the world of broadcasting on joining the (since defunct) local TV channel of the then Cork Multi-Channel TV. In 1989 he joined the new Clare FM local radio station as News Editor. In 1990, he returned to Cork to work on RTÉ's (also since defunct) local radio service in Cork prior to working with RTÉ at national level. He currently resides in Kildare[citation needed]. Morrissey has commentated on many sporting events but his bailiwick is Gaelic games.[2] He also has a job as sports reporter and reader on RTE News. He also presents Saturday Sprot on RTÉ Radio 1.
He is a former teacher at St Josephs Spanish Point Secondary School.
