Sorry, I'll try this post again!

Just bought a 06 5 series M sport. After weeks of looking I finally found one with all the toys. Just wondering if the rear lights off a 07/09 model will fit straight on, different people are saying different things and I was just wondering if anybody had first hand knowledge of this.

Not sure really. Pre 2007 facelifted model had standard rear filament bulbs. Facelifted model had rear LEDs.

I'm sure someone on the BMW forum would know for sure though.

chances are size wise they will prob fit. I upgraded my e39 rear lights with led type and they came with the extra electronics for the leds

If you are trying to move from original equipment filament type lights to orignal equipment LED lights, there is not a hope that they will function correctly. Even if all the connectors match up, the best case is that you will get bulb gone warnings with worse case being that the functions will be all muddled up.
It might be possible to buy the lights with a retrofit loom to make it work. You might alo need to replace the control unit.
Alternatively, you could look for aftermarket versions (if they exist) which would be manufactured to work with your wiring.
