    read on several sites ( re_ investing ) that now is a bad time of year to buy stocks or shares , that the market is very superstitious , i realise people may have bills they want to pay coming up to xmas aswell

    I disagree. I think generally speaking its a great time to be buying equities simply because everyone else isn't.

    Lots of good companies trading at attractive prices. Bought Visa and Rolls Royce a few weeks ago. Both up over 6%.

    By the way if people are selling their investments to cover xmas shopping then they shouldn't be investing.

    retail investors that could be doing that wouldn't impact the market much at all, what you may have is fund managers 'window dressing' portfolios into year end and taking profits on their investments in order to ensure bonuses

    Historically it was seen that way, but this year is definitely an outlier i.e. sell and may and go away would have been terrible!
