Looking for some advice i swapped back to my original filament bulbs from hids, i forgot how bad the original beam was, ive tried nightbreakers philips x-treme etc.. and no major improvement, the lights are that bad that it seems like i only have 6m of light in front of me. i dont want to use hids again as it interferes really bad with my radio, so last resort is although illegal to try slighly higher wattage bulbs not 100w rally spec something like 70w or so, will the wiring be able to handle the extra current and will the plastic take the extra heat car is a seat leon mk1

It sounds like your headlights are not aimed properly.

Please don't put higher wattage lights in.

The boy racer muppets that do this just cause misery and frustration for decent road users at night.

plus it could melt your headlight casing if they're plastic

extra watt bulbs will melt wiring and possibly the plastics in the headlights.. i have hids in the dips, main beam and fog lights on my mk1 leon with no interference..

did you try anyof the stuff in the link? where had you the ballets mounted??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭deaglan169

yeah i made relay harnesses myself before and it did reduce the interference but not by a sufficent amount, ballasts were mounted on battery cover and washer bottle, was out for drive again tonight and the lights are soo poor, would really like to get it sorted the hids were fantastic but the interference was so bad maybe if i saved up and bought genuine philips they may be better:confused:

    is it a factory radio?

no aftermarket sony and yes it has the power connected for the powered amplified antenna, the interfernece will wipe even a strong station out such as 2fm today fm to static with ocassional audio break through, i also have a pmr radio fitted and it wipes it out also which is my main concern

have you a set up like we seen on here with 20 subwoofers in the boot and 10 giga watts of power pumpin thru the car..

if so, that could be why your headlights are f***ed...

just a thought, as its pretty weird that the lights on a car are not the way they should be, especially since your tried out osrams and the like it seems

weird i had a sony fitted with no problems.. have a pioneer double-din unit now and thats grand too.. did you try any of the slim digital balasts??

i had osrams and philips bulbs in the car before i fitted the hid kit.. they dont compare at all.. i know when i get into the folks car to drive the lights seem like candles compared to my own

no not into that sh*te at all only thing in boot is a jack and some tools, been reading over on the seat forum that there aimed far too low but if i raise them ill blind every1, never tried the slim ballasts sean, i think best option is buy from a shop such as hidsforu so if they do interfere i can return and get some tech support unlike ebay

i have slim ones in my dips and fogs. big ones for the heads.. if you want to try my slim ones sometime your welcome

i might just take you up on that offer sean, i cant understand how you can run 3 sets of hids if i did that i think the hair on the back of neck would be standing up with the interference:D its a really strange issue, i have to do some work on the car later so i might re-connect them and check for an earth problem somewere, something is definately a miss with my motor if you can 3 sets with no hassle

These are near-HID output and fit in regular Halogen fittings:

its not just them "boy racer muppets" i find that most high end mercs,BMW and especially Landrovers have much worse "scattering" than a good retro fit ;)

I've had slightly higher wattage than normal bulbs in my car for years. They're a worthwhile upgrade.

I tried aftermarket HIDs for a few days and the result was the same as all those Passats, Civics, etc that you see going around with HIDs from ebay etc: awful. Beam pattern was poor, and I was constantly getting flashed by oncoming drivers.
