    Hiya..

I have seen a few threads around for a decent car.
I had a 04 Toyota Avensis 1.8L and it skid in snow and crashed.

Now limping back, I am looking at getting another car for myself.
Had a few Avensis already and dont want to look at Toyota.

I like the newer Model VW Passats or Ford Mondeo Zetec but not able to decide which one to go. Have been a loyal Toyota fan for its reliability over the last decade but I guess looking for a change.

I am looking at spending between 7-10K for 06 and above good saloon car FWD which is reliable and good enough.

    Any opinions..suggestions for mee..

For an average 06 car, you should be paying less than 6k, not 7-10k

After saying he had an Avensis, and likes the new Passat....

I want to see your 6k suggestions for a '06 that follows the above trend?

I said that an average 06 car could be got for less than 6k.
Sorry, i should have said that it excludes a newer shape passat.

I have an 02 TDI Passat and it's epic in the snow/ice, traction control is great. Only have all season tyres and I reckon winter tyres would make it even better..

1.6 litre petrol is a dog and thirsty though, car is just too heavy for it.

OP you might get a new shape Mazda 6 petrol at the top end of your budget. They were introduced from late 2007 onwards.

A thread elsewhere on this forum generally recommended that the tyres were, in some respects, more important than the car in terms of grip in icy conditions.....obviously RWD and automatics have thier drawbacks but after that, not sure if it's all down to "just the car"...

As above, I'd imagine the tyres are very important. In terms of cars, you'd pick up a 2006 petrol Accord for 9 to 10 K. Tax a killer on it though.

I have a 06 Passat with Verdestein Sportrac tyres and it's hardly put a wheel wrong in the bad weather we've had. Traction control/ESP is great and it's been generally very stable and well behaved on the icy roads.

As for the auto thing.. mine has the DSG box and I haven't had any problems with it over the last few weeks either.
