There will be a prostate cancer awareness package on the TV3 Sybil and Martin Show at 11.10am tomorrow morning.

    The interviewer is Martin King from TV3 and the interviewees are;
    • Pat MacBride (prostate cancer survivor and MAC member) and his wife Mary - Pat and Mary talking about Pat's prostate cancer journey, the side effects that ensued following his radical prostatectomy and how his diagnosis affected their relationship and their family. He touches specifically on his role in MAC, how MAC had helped him when he had been diagnosed and how he now reaches out to men newly diagnosed with prostate cancer through the MAC group
    • Karen Flynn (Irish Cancer Society Prostate Cancer Information Services Nurse) - Karen talks about the information, advice and support services the Irish Cancer Society provides to men concerned about or affected by prostate cancer.

From the Irish Cancer Society: "Unfortunately this piece did not go out this morning as planned.

However I have just spoken to the producer and he has confirmed that it will definitely go out next Monday 13th December between 11.30am and 11.50am"

No need for the sarcasm! ...and I sincerely hope you DON'T get it!

The program goes out on TV on Monday and should be available, for playback, on the TV3 website from Tuesday. Many people will probably find it useful.

...you might too! Have a nice day!

    ......and...btw....fwiw.....I'm a Prostate Cancer survivor

fair play dude, seriously. Glad you got through it.

I was just commentating on the fact that every second thread in here lately is about cancer.

That was partly my fault :( ...The damn program item scheduled for this am was deferred. I posted the change in the previous thread, but my choice of title (Friday 10th) wasn't exactly going to tempt people to look at it after today, hence the second thread , with Monday 13th in the title.

....now let's hope it isn't deferred again on Monday!

Prostate Cancer is a huge killer of men.....and most men do damn all about their health until whatever is bothering them REALLY catches their attention...and then it's often too late!

Great that it is getting some air time but this show, i imagine, has an audience of.women.
I understand that many men will go to the doctors, on pressure from wife/girlfriend, but should we not be attempting to change this?
Monday, in the A.M., will see most men at work. Is it not time that shows like the Late Late, Off The Ball, George Hook or Matt Cooper get involved in this (ie have the cancer society requesting air time)
Radio would be my option as most guys are captive audiences, on the commute to/from work.

Unfortunately that's still the case.:rolleyes::rolleyes: I don't know why. The phrase "your health is your wealth" is certainly true, but a huge number of men simply don't get the message.

They can probably watch it from Tuesday on TV3's video archive playback.

Good idea certainly worth following up. Prostate Cancer has been on the Late late before. RTE Newsreader has had major surgery for Prostate Cancer and appeared on the Late late about 18 months ago. Unfortunately Michael's experience has not been great and he painted an awful picture "All men who have radical prostatectomy are going to be permanently incontinent" It might be his experience, but there are an awful lot of us Prostate Cancer survivors who have far better experiences.

For Example; In May 2008, I had a radical prostatectomy for Advanced Prostate Cancer (btw, I'm 57). This morning I ran a half marathon in 1:39:14 and ran the Dublin Marathon, 6 weeks ago, in 3:21:52. I certainly wouldn't be doing those times if I was "permanently incontinent". A few of us Prostate Cancer survivors offered to go on the Late late to set the record straight, but we heard nothing back. Maybe we should try again.

    Casey,
As the mod says, you need to discuss this with your medical people. You've been tested twice recently, so you must be discussing this with them.

You can always ring the Irish Cancer Society freefone helpline 1800 200 700 and talk, in confidence, to a Cancer nurse, or someone who has experienced any particular form of Cancer.

Statement of interest: I am involved with this service.
