i have got one of these to and have just ordered a 3x42 lens for it as i think the 5x is abit much for a spotter on close ranges . did you see my video i did on you tubehttp://www.rapid7ownersclub.com.

what do you expect for £99, it works fine for a spotter up to 200 yards and the 3x lens gives better fov

Nope,..just the kit you have mentioned in particular.

I am more than happy with the NV I have but then I invested a bit more than £100 !

Is that a 200m without an IR lamp. If I got an IR filter and attached it to my deben tracer lamp would it make much of a difference to the picture quality.

It will, more illumination is better - up to a point. A lamp will give a better picture than a laser IMO. Your trouble will be attaching the two together.

For someone who doesnt have a clue about NV or what a IR laser is or a tracer lamp is never mind how to attach the two of them. Would this be a bad buy..???

TBH Ive always toyed with the idea of NV but if this anyway decent then I might aswell make the splash and stop holding out and get one.

lokks decent and with the aid of a more powerfull ir illuminator it would be very good considering the price

Thanks for the reply... but can I just ask

1) How much would this IR Illuminator cost
2) And where would I pick one up
3) Realistically. WHat sort of distances am I going to be seeing with it.

Lastly... if anyone here has experience with this stuff... tell me honestly... is NV actually any good for hunting (maybe even a spot of night fishing) or is it a bit of a gimmick.

A lad on another forum tried one out and said he could clearly make out sheep and cattle at a good distance. think you can get them for €299 on activehuntingireland.com

That's not night vision, it's a green laser.

It's a fancy lamp. It's not night vision, despite what they claim in their ad.

From what I've heard I see no advantage in it as the beam is too narrow to search with so the need for a lamp is still there, also seems to dislike the cold which isn't much use about now

stop tryin to put a downer on my idea i still want one!!!:p

Didnt hear that about the cold but as far as the narrow been goes couldnt see it being that bad, some of the good LEDs have a very narrow beem too
