Never look at the obstacle, always focus on the "hole" in situations like this ...that's the only chance you have of making it.

Mesmerising the tree/ truck / whatever like a rabbit in the lights, that means you'll deffo hit it.

the good thing about that video is you didn't hear a peep from the driver, not a thing. cool as an ice cube

To be honest he started braking a bit late and if there was a car behind the truck the driver was screwed.

Would most likely be an auto record kit - would be constantly recording and recording over itself as needed, you can press a button on these kits to keep the previous X amount of minutes stored safely.

A few people on here have a set up like this, Cormie (might have changed his name) being one example i can think of.

Better off hitting a car than a truck though. And any car behind the truck should have been keeping a safe distance behind the truck. Ideally if a car was behind the truck it would have started to brake once it saw the truck jack-knife, which would have left a gap to go through.

Are you joking? The guy reacts quick, and extremely well. There's probably less than 1% of drivers out there that would have been able to completely avoid that, he didn't even get a tip off the end of the trailer, and still managed to calmly pull in after.

And there was a car behind the truck, ok not exactly tailgating it, but I can safely say if that was me and I reacted like that guy did at the start, I would have stopped dead in the opposite lane from shock. Maybe something kicks in and the shock doesn't hit you til after, but even watching the video scared the bejaysus outta me

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

It is very scary especially since you would normally completely be relaxed, when watching the video you know something is about to happen so you're on alert and even then it happens fast. He didn't swerve straight into the white van either.

Would be interesting what most people would do in that situation.

Nope, still the same name :)

Great reaction, I've often wondered if I'd be able to react on time in a similar scenario where it would involve going to the other lane to avoid something, scary to see it happen but I'd hope I could have the same reflexes!
