Firebird boiler going to lockout frequently

I've got a decade or so old Firebird oil boiler (I can't see the model number in the dark :o) which has been going in to lockout every three days or so. It'll always start first time after I press the reset button and keep running for quite a few start/stops; basically a few days

Oil was just filled about 5 weeks ago but I don't think low supply would cause this kind of problem. Anyone any ideas?

edit: should add that its not a sealed radiator system, its an old fashioned type with a header tank so there shouldn't be any water pressure problems; of course there could still be.

    Just to clarify:
    Lock out on the boiler.
This is when the red large button is on.

This is usually due lack of oil. This could be because of dirt in oil line / filter/ the injector is not allowing proper flow/ oil pump is sticking or faulty.

There may be an issue with the burner/ flue.
The combustion chamber may be exessively dirty.
The burner flame is going out.

Either fault may be rectified by a service.

Filter looks fragged, I'll see what I can sort out about that over the weekend.

could be a sooted up photo cell, causd in some times by lack of service, and when it runs out of oil, easy fix though slide back the control box, the box containing the red button, and its the small probe like itemon the end, give the eye a clean and replace box, cost nothing to do and just may be your problem.........................
