Obviously there was 4 cent added to the price of Petrol in the budget, but why has my locals managed to rise their prices by 7 cents in less than a fortnight?

The wholesale price rose 3-4 cent last weekend before the budget.
What you are seeing is two increases combined.

Dont be blaming the filling stations either. I buy 5-6000 litres at a time and thats gone crazy as well. Actually .32 cent plus the VAT dearer than this time 3 years ago.

86 Euro today to fill up my 65 litre tank with Diesel in a cheap filling station. How long before it's 100?

Because other factors had already increased the price, as Hammertimes thread from last week showed.

Forget aircon, if the greens get their way we'll be cutting holes in the bottom of our cars and powering them a la Flintstones.

what crap! - the one thing about fuel retail is it is THE most transparent pricing in the whle retail area.

    1. Every station must by law display prices at the entrance.

    2. Every cent of the retail price of petrol can be checked / verified online

    3. The fuel retailer gets less than 6c per litre - this pays for rent/rates/staff/electricity/driveaways/security/credit card charges etc.

    4. revenue get almost 65% of the price of a litre.

    5. here's the breakdown - cost from refinery 48c (can be found on any commodity website), duty/carbon tax/nora levy 60c, distributor & retail combined cut 10c, vat 25c - any station below 1.43 is making less than 6c! -
whre's the cartel? & where's the rip off???

There's more profit in a chicken fillet roll than €50 of fuel!

No they won't: the perverse taxes on fuels that feeds the Health Service behemoth etc will always be needed.

We will never be allowed to go low-tax - when those vehicles arrive, a new tax format will come with it: whether based in mileage, road type, a tax on hydrogen - whatever you like - but I guarantee it will be that favourite of Finance officials: Revenue Neutral.

There's only 1 way to beat it: move somewhere else.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Take it from someone who has lived & paid taxes in 4 different countries - they all get their money somehow!!!:D - and many are still more expensive than Ireland for motor fuels even our near neighbours the UK!

Its a complete disgrace, here in the midlands there has been disgraceful profiteering prior to the Budget increase, prices went from €1.31 up to €1.39 per Litre in some cases. I was infuriated with that prat from the AA pronouncing there was increased refining costs, what a pile of horse****. Oil per barrel as never been so low and this has been the case for over a year and yet all i have seen is steady price increases at the pumps over the year.

let see, USD has gained about 10% on the EURO this year, yet prices did not drop back down from when they went up with the appreciating EURO

Funny it happens to be the exact same week as the gov increases that the wholesale increase kick in, hiding this...

oil in the last month has only gone up .4%, so its not like that is driving it either.

The price of Fuel only went up here in the Netherlands this week, by 4 cent.
