From what I can see it's a suggestion from the deer society t use discretion and give the deer a break during the harsh weather similar to the nargc suggestion to give game birds a break.
As far as I know it's not a ban as such but a suggestion.

There's a balance to be struck here. You can't place stress on herds already under pressure from the environmental conditions and chase them off their feeding grounds, but if you could surreptitiously remove weakling examples to reduce pressure on resources, you'd be working in the favour of the deer. You do need to be very careful though.

what do animals do in countries where they get this weather on a regular basis...
from a natural selection point of veiw all your doing is taking out the animals least adaptable to these conditions...
and if some scientists are to be belived about "climate change" we might get this type of weather more often and for longer periods in the future

They move into deep cover ,and do as little as possible to avoid using up body fat and energy reserves. After the season closes on Dec 31st in Europe, you as a hunter are obliged to feed them. However it is a good way to get a head count of what is in your patch,as they will come to a free handout of hay.
Thought it was supposed to be getting warmer in Winter in Ireland going by the CC folks??:)??

That makes good sense given the lack of natural predators in this country - problem is that man is the anti-wolf here in that a guy with a gun tends to select the finest lookin animal. From experience I know this is a hard urge to overcome as we are all only human:(

The day people get over the idea that trophies are a luxury, rather than a reward for long labours in pursuit of a better standard of wild animals will be a very good one indeed.

personally I wouldn't consider myself a trophy hunter and would not kill an animal just because of its antlers, lets just say that i would shoot the animal that stands out the most, ;)

well the point of natural selection via thermal or thundra conditions is that the cold itself will remove those least adapted for cold wheater.

Hunting species will remove those most visible to humans from the equation, some primates are more elusive or cryptid.
