I'm not totally positive about this, but I think if you ring the Garda involved and let him know that you are meant to be emigrating at the end of the year, show him proof of that and let him know that you would like to have this matter dealt with prior to you leaving the country forever.
He may be able to get the matter dealt with ASAP.

..be sure to prove to him or her, that you had this emigration booked or planned prior to the arrest, and therefore you are not doing a runner.;)

Hope it works out for you.

if you got a conviction would that affect your emigration ie your visa etc ? , better talk to a lawyer .

See the offence happened over two years ago, and I have my trip planned and booked around 7 months. Its not really a case of doing a runner or I would have just gone without saying anything, but just recieved the summons last night and i'll be gone end of this month so leaves little time to sort things out and im totally new to anything like this, so would much rather get it sorted as opposed to it hanging over me.

Well you had better get on the phone now to the Garda and see what he says!
