Hi, you have 2 choices in terms of actually buying the game; download (original and upgrades 'The Burning Crusade', 'Wrath of the Lich King' and obviously Cataclysm) or you can buy them on disk in the shop and install from them. Then sit for a day downloading all the patch content!!!

I dl'd everything this time. Had it years ago on an old machine and never got round o going buying again. Just keep backups of all the downloaded files if thats the route you're going.

    Good luck!

You need to buy every copy of the game (you've got to get the CD key from each game) if you want access to all the game's content. You've got to start with the original first anyway. AFAIK, if you buy Cataclysm on CD you won't have to download and install all the patches - which could take the best part of a day to complete.

You also have the option to download a free trial here.

you need to buy a BATTLE CHEST (£15) http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-Battlechest-PC-Mac/dp/B000WDZT9M%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJASE6HSSVXTNREYQ%26tag%3Dsmarterfox-21%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB000WDZT9M

with vanilla and tbc. Then you'll have to buy WOTLK and Cataclysm.

I'd only buy them all if you want to make a draenei or a worgen, or a goblin or blood elf.

Otherwise just get the first game til 60, then upgrade as you go

Agreed above. PArt of the fun is seeing the changes and new zones etc when you do get the expansion when you hit level cap.

Not sure but I think that the digital download would be cheaper.
    Check out wow-europe.com

If you buy the original you will still have to update to the latest patch which is alot bigger download than the original game.
Then just license up to the newer expansions as you level close to the relevant level-cap

    i.e 60, 70, 80

It hasn't been said already, but put your affairs in order and kiss your family and friends goodbye. This game can take over your life if you get into it in a big way!

The best thing about this game is playing with friends. In my opinion, the best thing about it is the end game content. Do you know anyone else playing? You could get them to send you a "refer-a-friend" invite - it gets you quicker levelling and other perks, plus they can show you around.

The Battle Chest will get you to level 70, and comes with 30 days access. You should know by then if you like the game and want to continue, so that's probably the easiest / cheapest way in.

I'd go with digital download. I had to wipe a PC last week, and for one reason or another, i had to install WoW from scratch using the digital downloader. Its a total of 12GB to download, but with the new loader, you can play while it downloads - I was logged in and playing ~30 mins after downloading the initial client (couple of hundred megs). You then just leave it overnight to download the rest of the game.

Follow on newbie question about the expansions (apologies if this is a stupid question)

I bought the Battle Chest (WoW and BC), and install them from disk but decided to try the 10 day trail from Battle.net first before activating the codes I got with the discs.

I seem to be playing in the Cataclysm world as it is referenced in all the quests at the start (the Dwarfs talk of earthquakes and the catacylsm).

Is this normal, or am I actually playing Cataclysm with this free trial?

I just ask because if in 10 days time when my free trail expires and I active the Battle Chest activation key will I have to start again since I only have WoW and BC?

Or has catacylsm changed everything and even if you just have basic WoW you still play in the post-Catacylsm world?

All a bit confusing, thanks for any help :)

Thye revamped the entire Old World (ie the original version of the game). Regardless if you have just the basic, the burning crusade or wotlk, or even cataclysm, you will still see the same old world. Think about it like the world evolved over the last few years, and this is Old World 2.0

When you get TBC you get access to Outland.
When you get WOTLK you get access to Northrend
When you get Cataclysm, you get access to the new 5 zones.

    Hope this helps.

cataclysm has changed everything but you can only do the cataclysm specific features (worgen, goblin, archaelogy) if you have a cata a/c

Cheers guys, that clears it up.

Makes my Battle Chest Bradygames guides a bit redundant now, with these quests that don't exist any more. Oh well :D
