Might be tough to get club membership that cheaply. AAI get €15 for registration and insurance so thats a base you can go below. Expect to pay €70 at a minimum for a year and you will need a club singlet if you are competing in AAI events

I think the only club you will be able to join for that price would be Boards AC. Unless your a junior then you might have other options

Does it matter what clus has the most expensive or cheapest yearly charge? It's about which club offers the best support in terms of coaching and facilities as well as a club nearest to you. Most clubs I think you'll find are 70 to 80 euro a year.

You need a club singlet if there is one available. Cathal Lombard got DQ'd after winning a short course national title without a Leevale singlet a few years back. I'm not sure how strict they will be to regular athletes.

There used to be a rule about being able to wear an all white singlet if you didn't have a club but that may have just been for Irish schools champs.

Rathfarnham AC isn't a high cost club.

That applied to races of 10000 metres or longer for club athletes also.

True - but there was more to that story at the time, which only became apparent later.

Afaik, You can register with the AAI as an individual member for a max. of 6 months. After that you must be a registered member of an AAI club. This scenario usually applies when somebody decides not to re-register with their club, rather than for new registrations.

If you're running as unattached, you must wear a plain white singlet.

If you approach the membership sec of any club, they may be able to accommodate you even if the normal membership fee is higher than you are paying. You need to find the appropriate decision maker, as you won't want everyone else knowing your business/circumstances.

    cheers all ,

condo do you know how much it is for the six month membership,

and will a white t-shirt do as singlet or does it have to be sleaveless

and as far as know they are on the 16th of january

what would be a safe time to be there for in time for

    registering and the likes .

You can be registered as "unattached" for a period up to 6 months after which you must join a club. There is no 6 month AAI membership, membership is for the full calendar year.

    I believe a white t-shirt will suffice.

The National Indoors are on in February (19th/20th) at the Odyssey in Belfast.

Entry can be done online usually (on NI Athletics website). You need to check-in for races, when depends on time race is scheduled.

    Absolutely true.

As i said, I don't know how strict they would be with 'regular' athletes. Martin Fagan would not have been DQ's for a similar offence. Some officials can be pretty sticky with minor regulations like this though.

Most officials would turn a blind eye unless someone else objected.

Having said that I (and other athletes) was required to show my club singlet during a downpour at a National Masters shot putt competition (we were all suitably attired for the prevailing conditions). Apparently grey/blue waterproofs were not acceptable by the IAAF for use in competition:D Such diligence by an individual official is to be applauded.

Getting a bit OT but one our young Crusaders athletes, in her first race, was slung out of her heat of the Dublin Indoors a couple of years back for a similar criminal offence. It was the club's error but we still never saw the youngster again :(
