    Hi guys,

Looking for some advice please, heading away over the Christmas break and want to avoid freezing / bursting pipes. I have installed a frost stat in the attic which kicks in when temperture drops and had planned on the heat running three times a day for half hour period.

The other option is to drain the system - what do people advise, thanks in advance for your replies

if you know how, i'd drain the system and turn the mains off - then enjoy your worry free holiday.

also drain the cold water storage cistern by running the bath etc. no water in the house - no problems!

We went to Austria one Christmas, which was great, and we just left the heating clocked to come on during the day 5-7 then midnight to 3am and again 7am to 9am. That way we came back to a cosy house.

Water can freeze even at 3 degrees celcius. Also while it is the right way to drain the system, but on your return, you have to turn on water, of course, and then you may get airlocks, if you don't know how to do it properly. If you are not sure, I would get a plumber to someone who is au fait with doing this.

    Enjoy your Christmas Holiday.
