I ordered an upgrade to UPC digital (basic) today. The sales guy said a box will be delivered to the house. What he couldn't tell me was what TV connectors the box has , i.e scart and/or HDMI. Does anybody here know? Ta.

If its just the basic digital (not HD) then it will just have Scart. Only the HD box has HDMI.

Mine (Pace DC621KU, UPC Mediabox [non-DVR]) has

    - AC
    - 2xSCART
    - Component audio
    - Digital audio
    - RF in
    - RF out (AFAIK this is only analogue pass-through - I don't use it at any rate as I've a spliter).

The RF out is indeed a passthrough signal, you can connect this to a VCR with an analog tuner to record programmes but only from the 20 or so analogue channels. The SCART marked 'TV' is the primary output, you should set this on the DVR menu to 'RGB' (instead of 'Composite') for the best picture quality. The second SCART is probably labelled VCR and sends out a composite video signal (plus audio left and right) for connection to a VCR or you if you get a SCART to phono splitter cable you can connect it to an external video device like an Archos where you can record programmes but only if the DVR is switched on and tuned to that channel.
