When you're on the boards homepage and type a word/phrase into the search box, a line of link results appears below that search box. You can open the link in a new tab on the browser - that way the search results page stays open.

ctrl-leftclick works on most browsers, alternatively right click on the link and select 'open in new tab' from the context menu.
