    Hi,

Sorry if starting a new thread on this is a problem but this one is specifically to do with taxing a van in the Galway authority area.
    l
My tax is up at the end of December and I'm just wondering how the Galway authority are interpreting the new rules or new enforcement of old rule.

Basically my commercial tax will be up and I'm wondering what will I be asked for or what will i need to tax again as commercial. What are others doing or has anyone any direct experience with the Galway authority.

I'm also wondering, if they won't allow the commercial tax, then what test should i get for the van if any.

    Thanks

Tbh I don't know what you mean? Does Galway differ from other counties about commercial tax?
Can you link to the new rules you mention?

There's talks that you need to show proof that you have a business etc before you will be given commercial tax in the future.

I'm surprised that you haven't heard about it.

Basically, it seems that different local authorities are taking a different view of thinbgs and therefore applying differing degrees of strictness etc.

The girl in the Galway office told me that if the vehicle is already registered to you, then NOTHING has changed. That is the way it worked when I renewed my commercial tax recently.

If it's a newly acquired vehicle, then there's a form that you have to fill in the first time you tax it, then it goes back to normal.

Thanks for that Fey!, I'm hoping that you are right, I'm just going to get my D.O.E. and send it all in as normal and see what happens

I taxed a commercial with Galway recently and their was no problems at all. Some of my clients have had an absolute nightmare with other authorities.
