Taxation of fund disposals

Could someone clarify a point for me re taxation?

This may be a dumb question but...

I understand that gains made on the disposal of a holding in one fund cannot be offset against losses on the disposal of another fund, but what is the situation within a fund? I have made various investments in a single fund at various prices. If I sell the entire holding now, some puchases will realise a gain while others will not.

Is there a pooling of the entire fund for cost/profit purposes or do I get taxed on the individual purchases which realised a profit and get no relief for the losses?

    Thanks
