    Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice on purchasing my first AEG. I have a budget of €400, any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated. I was thinking of getting RS Type 97.

    Regards.

Spend 200-250 on the gun, maybe a bit more. Because accessories and internal mods could almost cost as much as the gun in my experience.
I bought a gun for 200 euro and now it turns out that I'm going to end up spending 200 euro more turning it into a gun that suits me.

If you don't like accessories and just want a quality gun then you can spend more on the gun. Don't forget the cost of extra mags too as pretty much everyone has to buy them.

I've heard really good things about G&G but they mainly make M4 variants. Their G15 electric blowback raider is supposed to be pretty good and is on sale on eirsoft.ie for 250 euro. G&G internals are supposed to be some of the most solid around.

But if you don't want that type of gun, it's only a suggestion. One more tip. When you find a gun you like always search forums and google it to look for problems or faults with the gun. This can save you a whole lot of grief. Some problems can be fixed easily if you know what has to be done, but others can be way worse.

To be honest I don't want to have to upgrade the gun I select. I've had the experience to watch several friends buy decent branded guns and modify them. Only to run into problems several days/weeks down the road. So I'd like a solid gun with solid internals. I'd also have no problem being patient to purchase extra mag, battery etc.

Definitely. Spend time researching it. I researched my guns and bought them because they were good and I liked them.

You are probably definitely looking at a top quality brand if you want one that you can keep stock I'd say. Unless you find one of those gems from good quality manufacturers that is as good as much more expensive guns and is cheaper.

Look for one that has a solid metal gearbox without issues, has an excellent hop up(you can always buy a new rubber for 15 euro like a guarder and that'll really improve it),has a good ROF and can last a whole day of skirmishing without any problems. If can handle being dropped and hit against things that is good to know as well.

I would highly recommend giving the lads at Quality Airsoft Supplies in carlow a shout. If you give them a bidget, and tell them what you want, they will get/customize/make you a brilliant AEG for 400. Top class lads, and they have a thread in the retailers section.

Once you get the AEG shipped and pay VAT (not to mention battery, charger extra mag) I'd say Real Sword will be out of your price range. Have a look at VFC or G&G guns, they're great performers out of the box. Neither manufacturer make a type 97 (they don't do many bullpups) so you might have to look at another type of AEG.

    EDIT:I'd second QAS.

You've got a decent budget, so I'd recommend going to a couple of Airsoft stores, seeing what you A) Like the look of and B) Like the feel of. Talk to the people in the store, ask them about pros and cons, and what they'd recommend etc. I'd recommend visiting a couple of stores before committing to buy, purely because this is the world of airsoft - you see something shiny(er) and you'll want it.

Have you played airsoft before? If not, then I'd recommend heading to a local site and renting - see how your playing style reflects your choice of gun etc.

Guns that may be of interest in your price range
    - ICS Sig 551/2
    - Top Tech/G&G MP5A5
    - G&G L85
    - ICS L85
    - G&P Magpul MOE M4A1 Carbine
    - GFC P90

    And many many more

I've been really wanting the bullpup design with lead me to RS Type 97. My brother bought recently the RS Type 56. It is so incredibly solid. I've also been look at L85 A2 and thanks to JDR I've spotted a model A1 in the Calow region. Anyone know of a retailer in Ireland that I can purchase the Type 96.

Most retailers could order it for you, it's just a question of time and money.

You say you want a bullpup? I know it's most of your budget, but QAS have the G&G G2010 on sale at 350 euro. It's a replica of the FN2000.

The scoped version is 30 euro more:

A lot of people are discussing it here on boards and like it.

Drop a line on some of the retailers' threads here on Boards (Eirsoft is the one that springs to my mind) and see how much they can get the Type 97 for you for. It's supposed to be a great AEG.

I was/am looking for a Type97 myself (also after getting an RS Type56-1).;)

However, they seem pretty very hard to get here locally. The only one I've seen on the field was being used by one of the guys from Team Eastern Power (I think) and I liked it alot.

Another of the guys here "Chuck the Buck" has a Type 97B which he might be interested in selling - it's the shorter CQB version and has some extras (batteries, sling, tightbore) and is only a few months old.
It would come in below budget also! Defo recommended you give him a shout if it appeals to you; he's a really sound bloke.

I was talking to Tony from Eirsoft about one recently and he can import one easily enough but unfortunately for me - I am gun rich and cash poor at the moment.:D:( (hence my For-Trade offers...)

As already recommended - you should consider the G&G G2010 - the looks are a bit hit n miss but the performance is very good.

Also, as Evade said - VFC guns are very good straight out of the box. My fave in fact. Although they dont make a bullpup, they have some great performing guns (M4 and AK varients).

Best of luck in the search.;)

Thank you all for your support guys, I really appreciated it. I've doing the rounds, emailing some retailers Eirsoft included but I will know more about that tomorrow. Landwarrior seems to be the only retailer to have the gun in stock right now in the EU (Oh I so wanted to order it after watching Jarek4 review).

I'll ckeck out the G&G G2010 and I'll give Chuck a pm to see if he has an offer. I'll keep you posted, thanks...

If you getting an Ares you have to make sure it's a later version that has had the jamming issues fixed. Earlier versions would jam and would need an internal part (a hop up part I think it was) replaced before they would function properly. But once this was fixed it would work just fine. I know this because I researched the gun for a friend who wanted to get one. Plus it's more expensive than a lot of guns. It's also over your budget.

I always watch video reviews by Jarek4 aswell. I used it when buying my first AEG. Unfortunately he didn't make one for the last gun I bought, researching that was a nightmare but what little I found was good and I'm delighted with it.
