If I have already paid stamp duty (€30,000) do I have to pay the new property tax?

There is no new property tax.

you can dress it up as much as you want but, it is still a property tax

However, let me rephrase. If I paid €30,000 stamp duty already, will I have to pay these new rates.

The rate of stamp duty on residential property will be reduced to 1% on all properties valued up to €1 million. A rate of 2% will apply to property valued over €1 million.

You only pay stamp duty once on the purchase of a property. Its the cost of stamping the deeds of the property. (Originally it was actually the cost of the stamps.)

Stamp duty is not property tax. As dymo says, you only pay it when you are buying a home. And yes, if you buy a new home you will have to pay it.

ok - i think I misunderstood what was happening.

So if I already own my house and have paid my stamp duty, there is nothing more that I have to pay?
