Going to doctor without parents

I'm 18 now so obviously I can go to the doctor on my own, but I'm guessing my parents have my insurance details or whatever. I'm just wondering if I need my insurance stuff to go to the doctor, because I don't want to ask my parents for it(I don't want them knowing I went to the doctor).

Are you talking private medical insurance (VHI etc) or a medical card. With private healthcare afaik you pay the doctor yourself and if you reach a certain threshold they may reimburse you depending on the plan. (open to correction on that but its how mine works)

With a medical card, yes I think you would need that to avoid paying.

But if youre happy to stump up the cash noone else need know.

even with insurance, you pay the GP for the visit. you get partially reimbursed for this at the end of the year when you lodge a claim to the insurance company.

if you dont, then they wont have any record of your visit.

a doctors reciept will confirm the amount paid, but the reciept does not state the medical reason.

just go and pay cash. unless its a complicated complaint, which requires referral to a consultant or further tests, repeated visits or expensive medication then there is no reason your parents need to know.
