Did anybody hear Brendan Train Stopper Electric Light Bulb Ogle on Cooper yesterday.
Now here's a guy who knows how to rent a mob. Be very interesting times when the state moves to sell off the ESB, which Brendan believes exists soley for the enrichment and greater honor and glory of the workers in ESB. Makes Jacko and the boys up in SIPTU seem like cheshire cats:P

ogle is far the most obnoxious , arrogant and combative of all the union chiefs , the self proclaimed socilist who insists on a 70 k average wage packet for each of his ESB workers while at the same time condemning the goverment for cutting those on wellfare , cuts in wellfare wouldnt be so painfull were electricity prices not so high , makes me very angry whenever i hear that charlatan on the radio

As I can see from that link, 5th highest for the consumer in the whole of the EU27.

In the top 2 of industrial electricity pricing in the whole of the EU27. For an economy thats bust, that needs to fall.

Talk to the Regulator .. they set the price.

Unfortunately the price of Electricity will have to rise in Ireland due to Gas becoming more expensive in the coming months, since the Gas price is linked to Oil.

That and Ireland imports most of its energy, has no Nuclear power stations, and no Gas storage facilities.

Whereas the UK has Nuclear, Gas, Coal, Hydro and Wind plants and has its own Gas fields.

Simply put, its not expensive, its pretty much on Par with the rest of Europe for its location and lack of resources.

Thats very well but when we see the highly paid electricity workers on 70kpa and Padraig McManus pulling in 750 pa, its hollow. The ESB is not loss making.

But we had the same issues in the 80's/90's and went from below average cost vs European average to 2009 where we were 24% above the average.

Would a reduction in ESB (and ESB networks) wages and perks that would be inevitable if privatised result in reduced electricity costs?

Approx 70% of all electricity is now produced by private companies. Also the regulator refuses to let the ESB drop its prices as it wants customers to leave the ESB which is happening in droves. When this reaches a critical mass he will let the ESB compete and hopefully he will then reduce prices but right now the regulator is maintaining an artifically high price in order to get competition into the market and to give the competition customers.

If they do strike against any sell-off, they will expose themselves to the public on the obscene wages the staff are on. It would be best for that union head to shut up as not many in the public know how well paid ESB workers are.
