One of my favourite guitarists of all time... But why do we need a new thread every year?

We dont need one per say, but if someone feels that they want him to be remembered, then why not? It's just a few dots on the screen to pay tribute the best metal guitarist of all time in my opinion, and I still am sad that we will not be hearing any more of the music he had to offer...

    Great guitarist and great person.

    RIP Dime.

John Lennon is 30 years dead today, was infinitly more influential but doesnt get a mention.Dont get me wrong,I always have been and always will be a huge fan of Dimes work but a bit of perspective goes a long way.

This reminds me of the chatroom that Dean Guitars set up in the days after Dimebags death. It had a video player with a lot of unseen home footage and performances, but the one clip that stuck with me was Dimebag playing the outro riff of Floods on stage and the video was dated '88 or '89. Just thought it was awesome that he had that riff for so long before using it.

Thank you very much, it's been six years since I saw this, I had a look around a few years ago with no luck and hadn't come across me to look for it again since.

    Exactly.

NoQuarter already posted what I was going to write but I might as well repeat it. This is the Rock & Metal forum. I'm sure everyone here misses John Lennon too but as metal fans we're going to be closer to Dimebag and his music. Outside of the metal community Dimebag's death hardly registered whereas everyone with any interest in music knows who John Lennon was.

I'm sure there will be a thread in the general music forum for John Lennon's death. What kind of reaction do you think someone posting "I'm a huge fan of John Lennon but why doesn't Dimebag Darrell get a mention?" would get on there?

It wasnt my intention to cause any offence and if I have done then I apologise.I was merely pointing out that a bona fide musical icon also died on this day.He was much more influential when it came to changing the face of guitar based music than most musicians could ever hope to be.I just felt he deserved a mention on a forum that he helped create, thats all.Again, apologies if i caused any offence. :)

I can picture it now; "What's a Dimebag?"

Anyway, RIP Dime, great guitarist indeed.

    Not quite everyone here ;)

While I would never have wished for John Lennon to have been murdered, I bloody hate his solo stuff, and that bloody wife of his......:mad::mad:

Plus when I say to anyone in the real world that I don't like John Lennon, I tend to get funny looks because I still have a fair bit of my scouse accent.:)

But I would defo agree with you that Dimebag would be a bigger loss to a lot of people's musical world than Lennon was, he certainly is in my musical world, but I am sure that Lennon and his music will be celebrated at this time by his legion of fans as well.

I gave up on MetalIreland a long time ago and I'm not surprised to see the quality of discussion on there is about the level I expected before I clicked on that thread. I'm glad that site exists though because it probably keeps the plonker quota on this forum down :).

Can it really be six years already? Time flies.

It does. I remember when I first read this on Blabbermouth, the morning after the night before, I taught it had been a joke. Then I saw the news report on CNN and realised the severity of the situation. I couldn't believe something like this could have happened....and when I think where I was and what I was doing when that news broke it's hard to think six years has gone by so fast

I was skipping an art trip in school and had gone into Asha in Stephens green.

The girl behind the counter saw my Pantera t-shirt and told me what had happened.

Then went to Music Maker and stared at the Washburns for like 10 mins.

    Sad times man.

Listened to all the albums straight through that night, I was in tears once cemetary gates came on.

As a guitarist he was my ultimate inspiration and still is.

It's a shame I'll never get to see Pantera live.

That grave is pretty epic, I'd like to visit it someday.

Could listen to nothing but CFH in the library today, haven't listened to that album in so long; too long... ****ing hell. Such a guitarist, hard to believe it's been 7 years.

RIP Dimebag, I will always love your music.

Watching PanterA Home Videos 3: Watch It Go over the net now, what a laugh! Haven't seen this in ages!

"Smoking may cause cancer and emphysema."
    "Fuck that shit..."

I never cared for Pantera much, never idolised Dimebag, didn't care for Damageplan, paid no attention to the great Pantera divide.

To that end, I saw Dimebag's murder as nothing but an outright tragedy, perpetrated by a madman who happily had his life ended for what he did.

One thing that burned me was people saying 'he died the way he wanted to - on a stage' and whatever other melodramatic crap went around. I personally, having no personal knowledge of the man, surmised he would have much rather died in a bath of whiskey surrounded by tig ol' bittied strippers.

    WHISKEY AND STRIPPERS!!!

The man lived the way he wanted to, that's his legacy. **** the way he died, and **** RIP, do ya think he wanted peace? I don't think of his murder. I think of Dimebag surrounded by whiskey and strippers, screeching out solos, then back to the whiskey and strippers.
