You need to be a lot more specific - a lot of mediums fall under the "digital" bracket!

Do you mean over the air (ie DAB) or via the internet?

Not too familiar with Irish law as regards internet broadcasting I'm afraid but if it's anything like the UK (and especially if you plan on broadcasting copyrighted material) then yes, you'll need a license.

If you were in the UK, the Performing Rights Society are the people who issue the relevant license and you would need to keep a list of what's been played so the artist's can get their royalties. Dunno who you'd go to for one over here, but I reckon the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland would be a good place to start. You can check with them.

Sorry I can't be more help!

It's not strictly a radio station if you're 'broadcasting' over the internet so the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland would not be interested.

Radio in technical terms is a section of the electromagnetic spectrum but as you will not be transmitting radio waves from a transmitter ('broadcasting') then yours will not literally be a radio station.

    Hi!
    The internet one

You would want to have your homework done on this as IMRO and the Performing Rights people will be looking for you to pay your way if starting a music station. You should check out their websites before embarking on setting up a digital internet station otherwise you could be landed with a large bill for unpaid royalties.

    Thanks guys!

    No prob.

Do a search for statments made by Dusty Rhodes about why he gave up running his internet sations and it all came down to money and the amount sought for royalties ie had to pay for every track played.
