You are quite welcome to ignore the advice and spend your money on whatever pig in whatever poke you like.
As this is "bargain" alerts and I personally don't consider something that only does part of what it should do, a "bargain", then I'm grateful when someone sets me straight.

I got this tv last time around. Works grand for me in the bedroom with sky sent up to the room.

Just one thing to watch for is if you get the wall bracket that it holds it too close to the wall to be able to get the power lead in right. I had to get a new lead that had a 90 degree bend on it.

Need a modest sized sub 200euro TV for a present before Xmas. Is there a better bet around than this one?

just because saorview is free and available does not mean everyone in the country can receive it

Whether this TV can or cant receive a few free Irish digital channels does not diminish its use as a TV capable of displaying DVDs, chorus, sky, analogue, pc and usb recording and as such is keenly priced, that may not qualify as a bargain for you but each to their own.

Would you have dismissed a TV before because it didn't come with its own roof aerial or antenna? technically it couldn't receive any stations then either but i don't remember that being pointed out continuously

Those who can't will be able to receive Saorsat, when it's available. Expecting to be able to receive our terrestrial channels (which we pay a licence fee for) on a tv sold in Ireland is not unreasonable:rolleyes:

I don't see the harm in pointing out to people that many of these 'bargain' tvs won't display our channels without purchasing an extra box. People can chose to ignore the information posted here. They don't get that information in the shop.

If you choose to continue to pay Sky or UPC for Irish DTT or shell out for a set top box or even choose to do without, that's your prerogative, it's advice and information that's being given, not orders.
As to your second point, they don't come with an independent fuel source either, let's not sink into the realms of absurdity.
