    Hi,
I've recently bought an NEC versa e6200.
The fan is really noisy and inefficient, so after a long time searching I found Multiple BIOS updates that fix the issue. Problem is, any of the updates that run through the OS fail to fix the problem as they're older updates. The newer updates need to be booted from a USB or CD.

The machine will boot from a USB drive and from the CD/DVD drive. Problem is, it wont boot the BIOS update from either.

I've tried every which way at this point and cant figure it out. Any ideas?

Maybe the updates don't set themselves up correctly?

How old is computer?Maybe this issue is hardware issue not bios,be aware when you playing with bios because you may get brick after update.

are you trying to launch the USB as a bootable?

That probably isn't the case. though ive never had to do it that way. But, try going into the BIOS itself and look for an update option, then see if you cant point it at your USB drive.

Now I don't mean to doubt you, but could you post a link to wherever the BIOS update instructions are? What your saying just doesn't sound right. Maybe you have to create a boot disk and copy the update program on to that? As long as your machine will boot from a CD then that should work.

I was curious and found the instructions. http://www.nec-computers-ap.com/driver.htm

    Steps to run this file:-
    1) Use a minimum 32MB USB thumbdrive to create this bootable USB thumbdrive for flash BIOS.
    2) Download this file and recommended to execute it (double-click) in Windows XP OS and follow the instructions.
    3) Insert this USB thumbdrive into the system that need to flash BIOS and power on it.
    4) Make sure to set the 1st boot device from the USB thumbdrive and continue follow the on-screen instructions.
    5) If this file need to run in Vista OS, the system must boot into safe mode first before execute it and extract to the USB thumbdrive.
    6) The system either running in Vista or XP OS, it must be login as administrative rights before can proceed to execute this file.
    7) This file will be extract to D:\DRIVERS\BIOS\ folder before continue. REMEMBER:- - Backup your USB thumbdrive data before proceed as it will erase all the data inside the USB thumbdrive.

I presume you're in xp, so it should be a case of downloading the exe file, double clicking on it, and following the onscreen instructions. Step 7 is a little unclear. Is D: supposed to be your pen drive?

Assuming the files get onto the pendrive, you also have to change your b?oot device priority in the bios to boot from the USB. Were you able to do that
