    Why is Brian Cowen still being paid more after the budget cuts than David Cameron or Barrack Obama?

    Is it because Irish politics wouldn't attract the same quality people as it currently does if our politicians weren't the best paid politicians on the planet? If thats the reason then it's fair enough I suppose?

    seriously, no idea why hes paid so much and why politicans are not paid for performance against targets. I guess when there has been so many pigs in the trough they tend to keep filling it up for themelves.

    Ireland has high wages. It is a high cost economy. All civil servant from leaders, teachers, nurses etc all do very, very well compared to international standards. Cowen is just a reflection of this.

    Personally, I'd be delighted if Irish politics didn't attract the same quality of people as it currently does.

    I dont think Cowen or anyone in Govt understands the difference between a million and a billion. Thats why we are in so much ****. He thinks we have a population of 4 billion not 4 million so he pays himself accordingly
