Best Filter Coffee Machine?

So my DeLonghi ICM60 has packed up and died and I'm looking for a replacement.

I'm not a total coffee afficionado like some on here, and I don't want an espresso/capuchino machine, I'm a plain filter fan and my old machine was fine for my needs. I don't mind splashing out a bit for a good 'un.

So I'm looking for recommendations from those in the know on the best filter machine. One with a timer is good but not essential. Small capacity is fine and I prefer a hotplate to a thermos jug.

The grinder is on its last legs and any leads on a good replacement for that would be most appreciated too.:)

    Thanks in advance!

Try Technivorm. The Moccamaster KBT741 is highly rated (though I have no personal experience).

I'd imagine there would be someone in the UK importing if you google it...

I've just picked up a Kenwood kMix CM024 for the folks for Christmas. Read up online and it seemed to be one of the best of it's kind in the sub €100 price range. I'll let you know how they find it after Christmas Day if you're not in a rush. :)

We have a Capresso coffeeTeam 455 in work. Unfortunately it's only for the US market, which makes it a rather expensive solution considering electric conversions.

The Technivorm was our other option. It is considered one of the best automated filter experiences and is hand made in Holland. You will need a grinder for it though.

Tbh, a good carafe is much better than a hot plate.

Don't shoot me, but I like the slightly stewed taste you get with a hotplate. :)

id recommend a senseo http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/241510/art/philips/senseo-hd7810-60-coffee-m.html . its not a filter coffee machine it uses coffee pads but gives a much better result. its much cheaper to run than a filter coffee machine. u can make a cup or 2 of coffee in less than a minute and its fresh.
u can get pads here http://www.caffediem.eu/P_gb/1/89/2/Lavazza.html?ses=4f7fff3dd03dd7e3a37f6da62f6e36d1 the lavazza pads are particularly good. they also sell them in some supermarkets here but they are more expensive. its not the best coffee in the world but its pretty good for the price.

I disagree, using those pads is a downgrade from using a good filter machine with freshly roasted & ground coffee.

with a senseo u can use whatever coffee you like with eco pads. it has its other advantages also. its not the best out there but its unbeatable for the price imho for an average coffee user and should be considered.

hey guys, i got a lovely morphy richards coffee maker(accents digital coffee maker) from the missus for xmas, i bought illy ground coffee yesterday and popped in 2 heaped dessert spoons for 2 cups, it didn't taste great compared to mcdonalds which is what i am used to.

it does not say to put hot or cold water in the reservoir to inititate the brew, so i played it safe thinking the machine would boil itself. is it relegious that one would have to pour boiled water in or atleast an advantage?

also if the illy is a lighter coffee, would one recommend a possible 'hard hitter' for the morning wakeup

Normally you shouldn't put hot water into coffee machines as it can damage the pumps. So i'd say stick with the cold.

I'd say ditch the Illy and order something like this instead.
    http://www.hasbean.co.uk/products/Filter-Starter-Pack.html
Its 4 different types of coffee, you'll be able to make up your mind from there which direction you want to go. If you don't own a grinder, they will grind it for you, but somewhere down the line you should probably consider buying a grinder as the fresher you grind the coffee, the better it tastes.

It is a bit expensive, it might be worth ordering a few bags at a time.
But overall your getting a better quality product for about the same price as you'd pay over here.

    Another option is http://www.coffeeangel.com/en/products-page/coffee/
Shipping is cheaper, or free if you collect in Dublin.
