Fake NCT

We bought our family car in July, it was sold with a full nct. I just found out today that the nct on our car is fake. I got a letter from the nct people telling me that the car was due for its next test, I thought this a bit funny so i went out and looked at the disk in the window, not due for another 14 months. I rang the them and asked about it according to them the car was last tested in may 2008, not this summer like it was supposed to have been done, in fact the date I have on the disk is february they confirmed it was fake. I rang the garage and was told to f**k off and more.
I have rang the guards and i have to go up to dublin( the local station from where i bought the car) and make a statement but this will have to wait until the roads are better.
For now do any of you know what I can do about this and what action i can take and also will i be entitled to get my money back or what happens in these sort of cases.

Any advice would be great thanks

If this was me my alarm bells would be ringing. If the NCT is fake, I'd be beginning to wonder about the actual state of the car too.

Did you do any of the various Cartell checks before buying ?

I'm not a qualified legal professional so I won't bother giving advice but it would seem obvious that a valid NCT would increase the value of the car. And you would have paid a higher price because of the fake NCT. It's definitely worth seeking proper advice regarding it.

Is the garage simi registered http://www.simi.ie/ if so I would take it up with them.

Very strange that your local Garda Station couldn't take the statement and fax it to the Dublin station.

Very slopy behaviour by the Gardai, this is a very serious matter in my book and by delaying it gives the garage time to take the rest of there counterfit NCT badges off the other cars they sell.

You are being fobbed off by your local Gardai who are too lazy to take a statement from you. I knew a guy once who got the opposite treatment, he was assaulted in a small town while of a weekend away from Dublin so he went to the local Garda station to report it, they told him to go to his local station and report it when he got back to Dublin, needless to say when he did they weren't interested.

See if you can contact the detective unit in the area where the garage is located, ring them and ask them to take up the case, otherwise I would write a letter to the local Supt. and complain that you're getting the run around.
