Unauthorised overdraught and switch from laser to visa debit!!!

Hey everyone, because of rent and bills a few months ago, I had to use my laser to overdraw on my remaining bank balance..
However on every overdraw i was charged a €5 referral fee! I put up with this at the time because I was overdrawing and put up with the consequences. But for 2 weeks I had to basically live on nothing to get over this overdraft! They cancelled my laser so I could get a visa debit which they assured me I could NOT overdraw!
However, due to last weeks snow in, I had to shop in the rural, overpriced supermarket to get food! I overdrew by 49cents which i was unaware of since the bank gave me the impression the card would be declined in the shop if it was over drawing.. I got my salary in before the card registered the transaction , which the bankers assured me: you wont be charged if you put the money into the account before we receive receipt of the transaction. HOWEVER I WAS CHARGED €5 and when i called the support service they transferred me to my local bank to cancel the unauthorized overdraft but they were shut due to snow?
I was hoping I could never overdraw again with the visa! But it appears my bank lied to me!
Anybody else have a similar experience?

Exact same experience, with AIB. Currently looking for a new bank since I'm getting nowhere with their customer service. I'm still on a laser btw, not the new debit visa.

It wont make much difference. I'm with Permanent TSB and it still overdraws.. The bank should be a little more modest now about charging people for an overdraft! After all, they f***ed up our country!! I made sure they heard that when I called them!

OP as suggested, if you have a banking query the Banking forum is best.
