    Not really a "Thing to do in" so bumped to London forum.
    I don't know the pubs you mentioned, probably Dub pubs, but once you get there you won't be disappointed. Most smaller pubs I've been to in London have been great.

    Hi goonersnroses, whereabouts are you going to be in London? There are loads of good pubs but it'll be much easier to give you good suggestions if we know where you're planning on living and/or socialising.

    In the meantime you can have a look at sites like BeerInTheEvening - a lot of them tend to be focused on availability of ales as they're frequented by CamRA types (Campaign for Real Ale) but you'll still get an idea of what pubs to avoid.

    Pubs on the Southbank:

    REALLY like:
    Market Porter - http://www.markettaverns.co.uk/The-Market-Porter/
    The Wheatsheaf -http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/37/37261/Wheatsheaf/Southwark

    OK:
    Founders Arms - http://www.foundersarms.co.uk/

    Avoid(IMO):
    The Anchor - http://www.urbanpath.com/london/pubs/the-anchor.htm

    There is also a bar on near the top of the Tate Modern which is worth a look, has great view over the Thames, but not somewhere to hang out.
