It's an odd one. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's worth very little. It's too old for a plate-whore, and too tacky-looking for many. Which only leaves enthusiasts, few of whom will spring that kind of money for a car of that age. I'd say half of the asking?

I would say you would be lucky to get 20 for it. How many people here would want one and have the cash ready. Lovely car but interior is so so. Can you imagine the running costs.

Id be inclined to agree, €45k seems mighty steep for a 2003 SL, even being an AMG. Have a look at what they're fetching in the UK and it will give you an idea. I'd guess €25-€30k TOPS.

An sl 350 would be ample to lose your licence.
    Go for a Hayabusa, :)

that was my initial thought when I saw it

    just for comparison:

    06 M6 for €46k

    07 M5 for €46k

    05 911 C2 for €47.5k

That car is listed for quite a while now. Its a stunning car and photos dont really do them justice. Being the SL55, it is a special machine and Im sure would find a buyer at anything under 30k.

For the mileage I do, the running costs dont really make a difference to me, I'll be using the car for maybe 6-7k miles/year.

I drove one for a while abroad and enjoyed it, great fun to drive, the most powerful I've driven so far.

before I put the thread up I was thinking about 20k, but that would be pushing what I would give for it. I'll have a drive and see whats going on with it.

Thanks to all for the input.

I wouldn't low ball the hell out of the dealer, Irish people have a terrible habit of doing that with cars, not that i'm saying you would OP. Sure there would be no more than 5-10 people in the entire country who might be interested in it, but that doesn't mean its worth half the selling price to the dealer.

    It's still an incredible machine.

i would say the car is worth 35-38k realistically...
yes it is a car that wont sell too quickly.... but still it is an amazing piece of machinery....

    Very nice car,
spotted a similar one on donedeal in Cork the other day, this one's a CL55 AMG but it's also very very nice.

Guess there's not much point talking about insurance differences between a convertible and non when your talking about a 500bhp AMG :pac:

True, very nice motor, I wouldnt be lowballing, only getting some figures together, it's all in the air until I have a drive of it and see whats on offer.

That CL is a good looking car alright, they just dont do it for me like the SL. the non-AMG CL's are going for great money now on donedeal.

See what's on offer in the UK if looking to purchase, that would be my advice.
    How about this one?
    http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2296175.htm

I think the SL is a smashing looking car and I'm half planning on it being my next purchase (in about 20 years when this recession is over!). Anyway, to get an SL55 AMG would be a brucey bonus. However, the price of that one you have listed may have been reasonable in the boom times but can't imagine anyone forking out that kinda dough for a 7/8 year old car. While I know that the subtle changes to the body and of course the "under the hood" improvements, a 2003 SL350 or SL500 could be got for 23-26k so I'd be going with that option...with some haggling of course.

I'd be going for a black or blue exterior myself with a nice cream leather interior but hey, there ya go! Best of luck and report back to us if you do manage to take it out for a spin.

P.S. on a side note of sorts - I've seen that dealer advertise some high end cars but his/her prices do seem on the high side. He's selling a BMW 8 series at present - it's been for sale for at least 3 years now and price has steadily dropped - most recently, from E19.5k to E14.5k - but unfortunately, while it pains me to say so about such a beautiful car (;)), it's still overpricedin the current climate.

What a car. Would much prefer that to an M5.

Lovely car, but it looks like someone spilled red wine all over the seats.
That 2-tone leather is seriously nasty....
