im having trouble with an equation and id appreciate some help in understanding it ; find p given that q=4 r=5 m=8. 1, r= mp/q 2, m squared=p+q/q. /=meaning devided. thanks a million

    Find p given that [latex] r \ = \ \frac{mp}{q} [/latex] ? Is that the equation?

    What do you mean by [latex]m^2 \ = \ p \ + \frac{q}{q}[/latex] ?

    Did you maybe mean [latex]m^2 \ = \ \frac{p \ + \ q}{q}[/latex] ?

In the first equation all you do is solve for p by algebra, for instance if
you have an equation y = ax you would know how to solve for x right?
Same thing pretty much. Note, plug in all of the numbers at the
end of your work, don't plug in 4 for q etc... straight away as you can get
stuck when you do that in more complicated equations ;)

    Damo:

Use the basics rules of Algebra in order to get 'p' by itself:

Rule 1: If something is added on one side then it gets subtracted on the other (and vice versa)

Rule 2: If something is multiplied on one side you can divide by it on the other (and vice versa).

So, if r=(mp)/q then first multiply across by q, then divide across by m. This will leave p by itself and then you can replace the letters with their numerical value and evaluate.

Use the same logic for the second problem.
