    which one is best.....???????????

Which one is best.......... depends on what kind of shooting you want to do. What kind of ground are you shooting?

Either of the two of them aren't any good for target shooting!

The german and english pointer are both versatile and efficient breeds suitable to typical Irish shooting situations. It will really depend on who you ask. I don't work pointers but there are plenty of lads on here who have experience of both these breeds. If you want to see a good english pointer working look at epointers videos.

In the early days German Pointers were bred to do what English pointers generally hadnt been used for. English pointers were used solely as pointing dogs and were worked in conjuntion with flushing dogs, german pointers were bred to be hprs (hunt point and retrieve dogs), a dog which would track a scent, point and flush on command and then retrieve. However modern English pointers have evolved to be far more versatile and are now used by many as hpr's! Just have a look at Epointers vids: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055775778 .

I will be getting a hat cam soon I will show you how a german pointer works, which is much the same. English pointers are said to have a better nose and work more from the air than the ground, but german pointers are said to be better at tracking as they were bred from hounds as well as pointers and have the ability to track a blood scent which no other pointing dog can do. This is why they are used for deer stalking as well as game shooting. Germans have a slightly tougher coat and are generally better in cover yet I have seen some english pointers which were as good as mine in cover. My personal choice is german no doubt epointers will be english. Its a matter of personal preference and can also depend on the ground you run them on. But most importantly its not so much the dog as what you do with it!
