Any idea about Supplementary Welfare Allowance? I'm on 100 a week atm.

4% drop across the board apparently

4 euro less a week doesn't sound like much but over a year that's down 208 euro :(

In fairness, I thought there would be a lot more of a reduction imposed.
I'm more concerned about unemployed people now being forced into ridiculous training schemes picking cotton, cleaning toilets or other such amazing CE or WPP schemes.

IS that what it means? Does that mean I'm down from 100 to 92 a week? And if I was 22 I'd be down to 86 a week?

says all social welfare is cut by 4% so i imagine that includes disability

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭Konata

Rent Allowance contribution up 2 euro a week :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 774 ✭✭✭notsobusy

Yes disability is going down by €8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭rightwingdub

    Was rent allowance reduced?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭DConway

I think if you were 22, you would receive the full allowance, So it would be reduced from €196 to €188, and then a further €6 to €182.

    Not too sure though.

Where did the 4% come from? Can't see it in the summary.

Rent Allowance Contribution is going up by €2, cant see if it went down or not.

Supplementary Allowance is also down €10

    Was rent allowance reduced?

No, but your contribution towards it (I think it's 24 a week atm?) is up 2 euro a week.

It's the disabled person living alone in private rented accommodation who will be hardest hit, yet again. They were hit by around € 25pw last year, and it's at least €10 this year, though probably more when the changes are made to the household benefits package. They have yet to say what these changes are.

Disgraceful way to "look after the most vunerable in society"

Unemployed person on full rate living at home with parents = €16pw cut over 2 years.
Disabled person living alone = €35pw (at least) cut over 2 years.

Afaik, that's still the same as the full payment. €188.

Is there now going to be a once off 40 euro fuel allowance on top of the fuel allowance.Or is it that .they are getting rid of fuel allowance and you just get 40 euro once.

    I assume the first ?

Way I understand it, it (the extra fuel allowance payment) will just be either extended for a further 2 weeks past the normal deadline that it would be cut off, or, an extra one off payment of €40 will be included at some stage during it's present payment term.

Saddening that a generation of talented graduates [ironically whose education has been more or less funded by the Irish taxpayer] is going to have leave the country through no fault of their own. And they will leave - I know because I'm one of them.

No. The only reduction in the rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance and Supplementary Welfare Allowance for those aged 22-24 is €6 per week.

^Is that for people who signed on very recently? What is someone has been on Jobseekers Allowance for 5 years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,168 ✭✭✭Balagan

It's for young people whose payments were reduced according to age in previous budget. Anyone on full payment dating prior to the age related reductions will have the 4% reduction in JSA or the Euro 10 reduction in Supplementary Welfare Allowance.

Not good news if you are a mature students and/or live less than 45 km from place of study. The 4% reduction will apply from next grant payment, though God only knows if the other changes apply to existing students or just those starting the 2011/12 academic year.

Student Support Scheme - 4% reduction in rates of grant, consistent with the % reduction in all DSP working-age payments; limit mature students benefits to those payable to ordinary students; and reduce proportion of students qualifying for the non-adjacent rate by changing qualifying criteria from 24km to 45km.
