Expressions of interest are welcomed for a smallbore rifle competition comprising teams from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, to be held in 2011 and annually thereon.

    Format –
Two legs, each comprising a double English match (2x 60 shot prone matches), the team with the highest aggregate score declared victorious.

One leg to be held in each location, at agreed ranges.

THE ROI LEG - TO BE CONFIRMED
THE NI LEG - RUN CONCURRENT WITH THE DUNGANNON OPEN - 30th APRIL 2011

    Teams will comprise eight shooters.

Substitutes will be allowed between legs if required.

A range officer, scorer and a few helpers will be required at each location. Tea and buns will be expected.

Licensing paperwork and advice will be made available by each team for the visiting team well in advance of the competition.

Winning team captain to be presented with the Intershoot Challenge Cup and Winner’s Medals, and bragging rights until the next year. There will be medals for Runners-Up

Teams will be selected by the team captains, these will be agreed in advance.

If you are interested or would like to be considered please contact your team captain below

Northern Ireland – Ryan Mills ryan@intershoot.co.uk
Republic of Ireland - TBC (any willing bods???)

Please note - this event is not be be considered as representing either country, the teams are 'select' teams and the event has no affiliation to either NGB.

EDIT: Date for the Southern leg is SUNDAY 3rd APRIL 2011, MIDLANDS RANGE

Sounds good. Should be up for this. Will give me the incentive to get off my arse, get my Europass sorted and get the NI licence changed over.

    Brilliant idea, please do it.

PS. Does the name imply that InterShoot.co.uk are sponsoring this in some way?

PPS. Are there only two teams (one NI, one ROI) or is it multiple teams of 8 shooters which will be either all NI shooters or all ROI shooters?

Its certainly going ahead, I spend a bloody fortune on the cup!!

    i) Correct, it's all being organised by us, we've sponsored the cup (and its rather nice) and the medals. Hope to have T-Shirts and other freebies as well.

ii) One team of 8 from NI, one of 8 from ROI; should it prove successful we can change that to teams of 10,12,16 etc for subsequent years, but I think it's best to stick to 8 for this year; walk before we run so to speak.

The main aim is to try and encourage more shooters to a) shoot competitions b) be prepared to travel to a competition - the logic being they might enjoy the challenge and the banter and want to go further afield which will in turn (hopefully) help the national teams

I also need a willing body for ROI team captain???

Ah, but shure aren't you dealers all filthy rich? :D
    (More seriously, nice one)
    One team of 8 from NI, one of 8 from ROI;
Okay, so the obvious question then; how do you get on the team for your respective country and who makes the final decisions on team members?

(Yeah, it's a pain to ask, but that's gonna be your first hurdle so you might as well jump it now, amongst friends :D)

Each team will have a team captain, who decides the team. It shouldn't be be decided on a 'bessy-mate' system; it should be open to all. If you want to be considered, email your team captain (once I get one for ROI!) and help him/her if he/she needs info on your recent scores etc.

Might be an idea to have a reserve.

The simplest way to make the decision on the final 8 would be on average scores; thats how I'll be doing it. I have a feeling that I won't be turning too many away myself :D

My strategy will be to make sure Duff hits a big score, make a few adjustments to Conors rifle and the rest should fall into place :p

Cool, well, up until the first disagreement ;)

    :D
Can see me being at a disadvantage in a 50m match there since I think the Anschutz 2002 won't quite make it that far :D

Pull an Emmons on them (ie. gouge out the chamber with a screwdriver the night before the match!) :D

Feel free to count me in (strictly in case of emergency back-up and the other 30 shooters above me all fall foul of a mysterious disorder just before the matches).

    Sounds like fun.

    Brilliant idea.

    hehehehe greeeat innit!! ;)

    ............ah bollox........... it's substitutes!!! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'll have a crack at any trial matches for this. Sounds like a laugh. A good way to do it might be to have a trial match, then the team captains pick from that. First is to decide on a way to select the captain, of course.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,076 ✭✭✭IRLConor

    1. People volunteer to shoot
    2. Those shooters pick a captain.
    3. Captain picks a team and/or substitutes.

Doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

Correct, keep it simple. You could even have a poll on here, anyone who wants to put themselves forward for captain, declare an interest here.

One point I would make; given the venue is likely to be Midlands (permission is being sought), it will be much easier if the captain is involved with Midlands.

    Anyone want to volunteer?

Not all the shooters who would be likely to be involved are here, so it's probably best to hold off a bit until they find out.

For the Republic of Ireland Selection, an email will also be shortly sent out - Those who recieve it, please make sure to pass it onto any other shooters who may be interested in being on the squad (but who are not on Boards regularly or at all).

On the email, you will be asked to:

    1. Put your own name forward if you're interested in being considered for the 8-shooter team.
    2. Nominate who you propose as Captain (This is optional: if you have no suggestions, you do not have to propose anyone).

This is the fastest way and most efficient way of gathering this information. I'm hoping by the end of this week that we'll have a reasonable list of potential team members and hopefully some nominations for the team captain also.

An email address will be provided in the email shortly for you to send your "Expression of Interest" and Captaincy Nomination. If for some reason you do not receive a copy of this email over the next day or two, PM me directly on here and I'll give you the email address.

(This approach is being taken to make sure, or at least try, to centralise the information coming in about potential participants and team members and nominations for captain and to try to avoid names falling between three or four stools.)

If anyone has a problem with this approach - Post now or forever hold your peace!:D

    Thanks,

    dC

Some of us won't even be shooting, but "we care" :p:p:p

And as for silver medals, don't be counting your nordie chickens just yet!:p:D

It's not won yet demonloop! Looking at the classification lists for ideas, this could yet be very interesting indeed. Especially with eight on a team.

Should I actually happen to be in the country for this, I'd love to take part. This is, however, unlikely :P

Great idea I must say. And about time we put those nordies in their place...

A quick update for everyone on this:

The date and venue for southern leg of this inaugural Intershoot Challenge Cup 2011 has been now been confirmed and will be held at MNSCI on Sunday 3rd April 2011.

Make sure to put that date into your diaries!

    Thanks,

    dC

Just a quick note to give you all an update on progress for the 2011 Intershoot Challenge Cup shoots in April:

Expressions of Interest have been now received from a good number of shooters, with a good level of interest particularly from the DURC, DFST, MNSCI, and ECSC shooters. Some of the top-level shooters have put their names forward and we have the makings of a very good panel to make the team selection from. Obviously, anyone else interested in taking part (some names are currently conspicuous in their absence!) should put their names into the hat fairly shortly to allow the Team Captain to begin the team selection process.

Which brings me neatly to the Team Captain:

Following the submission of the EoI's and the names put forward for the Team Captain, a clear front-runner emerged for this position.

I am delighted to let you all know that Séan Baldwin of the DFST has agreed to captain the team! A great choice I think and the right man for the job IMO.:)

We now have the makings of a successful Team to take on our northern cousins and the right combination to bring the Intershoot Challenge Cup south of the border!;) I love it when a plan starts to come together!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭intershoot

    Excellent!

Mr Baldwin is a fine choice, he has excellent slagging skills, and he can shoot a bit too ;)

Now all we have to do is get another five shooters in the North! Need to go and check the rules again and see if we can bring in a few ringers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭dCorbus

I've told ya: No ringers. No scotsmen. No scotswomen. And no seconding shooters from elsewhere.

Or there's a few Irish-Americans may be given new goodwill Irish passports.......Not that we need 'em coz we've enough good shooters here already anyway, na na nana na!:p

    ;););)

    :rolleyes::D

    Update:

Alongside the Intershoot Challenge Cup (Southern Leg), the MNSCI will be holding a PR60 Spring Open on the 3rd April also.

When are teams being selected dC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭dCorbus

    That's a matter for the Captains!:p

A certain SB will no doubt be chatting to shooters in RRPC on Sunday about this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭dCorbus

    Ladies and Gentlepersons,

    Your attention please!

Following discussions with the team captains and the sponsors, it has been agreed that the Intershoot Challenge Cup matches (both legs) will now be postponed until later in the outdoor shooting season.

Due to prior competition and training commitments of a number shooters and the paperwork involved, the Sponsors and Team Captains require more time to put together the best teams possible and to this end it has been decided that an April date for these shoots will not allow sufficient time for all matters to be addressed satisfactorily.

Rather than rush this inaugural event, we are now looking toward a September / Early October date for the competition.

Our apologies for this change in plan, but we all feel that, for such an interesting and important competition, the event will be a greater success if held later in the outdoor season.

We will keep you all informed regarding a new date for the legs and team selection will continue during the season.

Whilst we will not now be holding the Intershoot Challenge Cup matches during April, the MNSCI will still be running their MNSCI PR60 50m Spring Open on Sunday 3rd April and the Dungannon RPC Open will still be held on Saturday 30th April, all as previously planned.

Again, sorry for this late change and we look forward to seeing you all in Midlands MNSCI for the Open shoot on the 3rd April - It will, at the very least, be a handy warm-up for anyone going to the IoM and will get the outdoor season off to a nice early start!

    Thanks.

    dC

I'd like to add my apologies to this lads, the main problem has been our end.

We've got a very busy schedule over those two months and, financially, its a big ask of the shooters I feel.

Lets do it, but let's do it right.

I'll be attending the Open Meeting in Midlands and might even fire a shot or two if I have a rifle by then!
