The Other Guys

Thought it might be nice to have a thread for the other guys. The chaps who never quite made it to the top of the card, didn't have multiple world titles, who might not be considered legends or have been part of legendary tag teams ... but chaps who wrestled, and made the shows your watching that bit more interesting. Basically the kind of chaps you probably wouldn't hear mentioned unless you followed wrestling at the time. (Not necessarily the jobbers and wasters though)

I'm thinking of people like Al Snow, who had a great european championship run, and definitely one of the most entertaining ones. His work with Steve Blackman was great fun, and who wasn't a fan of Head? Even if he did take part in a couple of dodgy angles (Kennel from hell)

Or even Bob "Hardcore" Holly. I know backstage he was a dick, but I liked his no nonsense style in the ring, and had a great run with ECW. Thought he had finally found his place, but I can't remember what happened afterwards ... he was injured and then released? I can just remember a great couple of matches with the likes of RVD.

Everyone should check out Bob Hollys YouShoot interview. I have a new found respect for the guy.

Jerry Lynn. I know he got acclaim in ECW, but it was the only time he was ever treated like he should have been. Whilst obviously limited on the mic, either WWE or WCW should have made a space for such an amazing in-ring performer.

About my favourite guy who never made any significant splash in WWF/E apart from a stupid storyline or two was Jamie Noble/James Gibson. One of the soundest ring techcicians of recent years, he always was able to put on some great matches. He had some quite memorable ones on throwaway shows like Heat with the likes of Jimmy Yang, Kendrick, mark Kincade etc, and even did a decent job the few times he was on PPV, most notably with that guy who was married to Torrioe Wilson whose name completely escapes me now - Billy something.

    Billy Kidman

^ Billy Kidman is another who suits this thread. He had some great matches in WCW before the Russo-machine destroyed him.

Hard to feel sorry for a guy that was married to Torrie Wilson though :D

Edit: Bounty posted Kidman's name first.

Anyone else see the title and thought it was going to be about the will ferrell movie?..

But to be honest, you cant have a thread about this without mentioning:

Would of course agree with Jamie Noble. Thought he was great on the mic as well as great in the ring. Only thing going against him was his height. Thought we were in for a tag team renaissance when WWE packaged him with Kid Kash as The Pit Bulls, only for Kash to get himself fired. Would have had great matches with London and Kendrick I think.

To be honest, i wouldn't have counted Scotty Goldman .... sure he was only on tv a couple of times, and never made any impression whatsoever.

Tajiri. I thought he did well to get himself over considering he never spoke English and his early stuff playing off Regal was a lot of fun. He was a great wrestler too and I remember being blown away by moves like the tarantula and the green mist as he was the first guy I saw use them.

Tajiri and Super Crazy had some of the best matches I have ever seen in ECW. Tajiri was very funny with Regal too.

    Mark Jindrak?

+1 for Cabana. His podcast is the most entertaining thing in wrestling right now.

Lance Cade. Could have been a main eventer.

A-Train.Had a unique look & was constantly improving. Also the guy who was Judas Mesias he'd a bit of a tacky gimmick but was badly used by tna.(god I've said those last 4 words many, many times).
Also a shoutout to James Mitchell one of the best managers ever on the mic & isn't getting used by anyone now.

    William Regal
    X-Pac
    Tajiri
    Perry Saturn
    Test
    Chris Kanyon

Well at the end of 1999, Sunday Night Heat started airing on Channel 4, and this was before I had satellite or cable, so I was watching the mid-card attitude era guys more than the headliners.

So a few that come to mind from that time are Essa Rios, but he wasn't around for very long, and Val Venis was another favourite of mine back then.

Kincade was a serial jobber on the likes of Metal etc, but always put on decent matches.

You may or may not know that A-train has got a new lease of life in Japan under the name Giant Bernard. He has made a pretty decent career for himself out there.

I have thought for a while that Vince should bring him back. Umaga showed how a stint in Japan should be used to benefit a WWE career. If only Vince would send all developmental talent to Japan for a period of time to learn.

Yeah, ha it was funny seeing him wrestle against American wrestlers in Japan (i remember he wrestled at NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom III in a tag against TNA wrestlers)

    Ah here it is :
    5. Fighting Holdings Competition: Riki Choshu, Masahiro Chono, Kurt Angle & Kevin Nash vs. Giant Bernard, Takashi Iizuka, Tomohiro Ishii & Karl Anderson

    He's still a sh!t wrestler though.

I am still holding out hope that he will get a WWE world title reign at some stage :(

The WCW/ECW Invasion (2001) storyline resulted in a lot of these guys. Most notably Jamie Noble, Chris Kanyon, Lance Storm, Shawn Stasiak and possibly even DDP & Justin Credible.

There just some names, that werent big names like Austin or Angle, off the top of my head that stood out during the time of the Invasion. They might have lasted a year or so after it, but most generally just fizzled out.

I also agree with parker kent about Tajiri. He was awesome in ECW and his time in WWE alongside Regal was great too. Imagine if he was still around in WWE and how cool a feud with him and Mysterio would be.

loving the tajiri mentions - i've always loved him - he's an unreal worker. always secrely hoping he'll make his way back onto my screen some day in either TNA or WWE

This match between Tajiri, Super Crazy and Jerry Lynn shows just how under appreciated some guys can be! A great match. Not sure how to embed Daily Motion videos, so here is the link. Plus I am giving the video via the wrestlescoops website, they have some good lists of the top WWF, WCW and ECW matches. It is worth checking out especially since they supply the link to most of the matches.

Arch Kincaid? Was he the one who had a degree in rhetoric?

Golddust in recent year has been grossly underrated. He went a long way to giving Seamus a solid start to his career for example.
