Java Reccomendation/Workbook?

HI pplz..

Im currently doing java programming and am looking to see if anyone knows a good workbook with examples and exercises to do for java 2, starting from beginner and bringing you forward?

Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated

I'm interested in this as well. There are a number of workbooks if you search amazon.co.uk, but they seem to be quite old (not that this neccesarily matters too much).

Excellent book with loads of examples...

EDIT: its not really a workbook though

Personally, I detest the 'head-first' series. They try too hard to be entertaining...all the time.

If you're a fan of the Dummies series format, then you might like this format.
