replace optical drive

hello everyone

my optical drive is broken, how easy is to replace it? im familiar with desktops but i never opened a laptop.
ive seen a few drives for sale on laptop direct for 26£

Besides the size, you'll need to double check the connection to see if it's SATA or IDE. Most of the newer latops these days use sata.

Could you tell us the make/model of the laptop? :cool:

Mostly you just undo 1 screw on the underside, where the back of the drive would reach to, and either gently push on the bracket or open the tray and pull.

It's IDE I'm afraid.

it seems relatively easy to replace the drive though.

Sadly, having an older, now generally discontinued connection, they're slightly more expensive than the SATA drives.

If you're still unsure about installation btw, those guys would probably fit it for you too, for around 50 notes.

If you're confident enough with the install yourself though, take a gander over on adverts.ie. You should be able to find an ide drive there. :cool:
