KLM plane in old livery?

I was in Schiphol last Thursday and I saw a KLM jet in what looked like an old livery. It's the only time I've seen this - anyone have any idea why this jet was different?

Its in a retro scheme - many carriers have been applying previous colours schemes to celebrate various anniversaries ...

Its a very clever marketing ploy, which I love. In the US because so many airlines merged though the years there are great opportunities for retro liveries. I think US Airways has 5-6 liveries of now defunct airlines that merged together to form US.

Air France have a A320 in 1960s livery and BA painted a B757 in the early 80's scheme for its last 2 months in service.


Around this time many European airlines are reaching anniversaries. KLM is 91 (oldest airline, founded 1919), Iberia is 80, TAROM is 55. Next year is the Aer Lingus 75th birthday

All I know is that the plane stood out - I really like seeing the retro scheme.

Found this mock up on Flickr a while back by Andre Bourgeois. It shows the four different livery's EI could choose on an a320. From what EchoIndia has said, they are going with the 3rd one.

The second from the top looks really smart, amazing how some of todays modern schemes look piss poor compared to some retro's which look the dogs bollix.

Modern livery do tend to be quite bland.

Too many 'mostly white with a spot of colour on the tail' liveries out there.....
Cheaper to paint I suppose. The AA polished metal livery is nice,it stands out.


In the current UA/CO merger I would have like the blue and white UA livery to remain as it was quite nice. Instead we are getting the boring CO livery.
