The one that is part of my heating system. Should the water be hot or cold? Just noticed lately the water always seems to be hot? Dont think it was previously.

The small tank is termed a Feed and Expansion Tank (F&E).
It should normally just have fairly clear cold water in it.

If the tank water is getting warm/hot then its an indication that the system is either overheating or poor circulation around system and water is being pumped or expanding into the tank.

Are you having problems with air in radiators, sludge in radiators/dirty water when venting rads etc.

have you closed down any rads lately. This could cause water to be pumped in to attic.

    Might need

    the water should be cold

your hot water cylinder may be too hot and causing pitching into the expansion pipe and then into your attic tank
is your immersion stat functioning correctly or is the water too hot from your central heating
think you need a plumber here as this could be dangerous

Have had heating problems over last few years but system seems to be working reasonably well lately. No air in radiators lately. One radiator seems to be only heating at the top but havent noticed anything else unusual. Will give my plumber a shout.

Rad hot at top cold at bottom indicates sludge/dirt.
Might just need cleanser added to system and then flush out and refill with inhibitor.
