England and Australia is too much to ask but Fiji is a possibility. 3 teams from the group qualify so there might be a bit of a shot

ireland had there stongest team v fiji ever in 09 , can you see the likes of pat richards after a pounding super league being up for v england and australia with some other possibily 5 super league players the rest made up from the other divisions and as the rules states 4 players from the domestic league, in 2010 there was not one win from any representitive side that bore the name ,, ireland ,, the students , wolfhounds , the home domestic team , that was about 25 matches , what was learned from this ? we will see in 2011, and as sources tell me that they can not get a strong enough side for the game v usa, on the 19th march . cancellation is now a possibility.

They haven't really sorted out a fair format for the WC yet, but if you think Ireland have it bad spare a thought for PNGs group last world cup. England, NZ and Australia.

The problem is the gulf in class between NZ/Aus and lesser extent England with every other team in the competition.

See the point you're making OP, but isn't that really the council of despair? The sporting landscape is pretty bleak in Ireland and when it comes to RL...well...but look, I'm sure we can cobble together a team of decent journeymen to have some sort of crack. given England's performance in the 4N this year there's no reason we cant put one over them.....

Barrie, you're right to a point. I was OTT in my response, but it was a case of trolling. No interest in RL, just stirring. Having said that I shouldn't have reacted as strongly as I did for which I apologise.

Representative teams played nine competitive games this year, losing all nine. Students lost 3 games, A's lost 3 games and seniors lost 3 games.

Final was played in Portarlington as it was halfway between Exiles(Terenure) and Titans(Young Munster). Finals are put out to tender, clubs that are willing to host these games apply to hold the games. In the abscence of such applications, available neutral grounds are the next best option. Inter-pros were played in ALSAA and Portarlington RFC.

2004- Grand Final Clontarf Bulls v Dublin Blues Clontarf R.F.C.
2005- Grand Final North Kildare Dragons v Treaty City Titans St. Mary's RFC
2006- Grand Final Calow Crusaders v Treaty City Titans Co. Carlow RFC
2007- Grand Final Carlow Crusaders v Treaty City Titans Old Crescent RFC
2008- Grand Final Carlow Crusaders v Treaty City Titans Portlaoise RFC
2009- Grand Final Carlow Crusaders V Treaty City Titans Garryowen RFC
2010- Grand Final Dublin City Exiles v Treaty City Exiles Portarlington RFC

No apology necessary, reaction was proportionate to post.

The suggestion of withdrawing from the World Cup is unbelievable !! Talk about a childish and unsporting response. Sorry but imagine suggesting that at any level of sport. Every team at some time in it's life takes a hiding but you don't just bottle it and run away crying.
To take on the best players in the world on the biggest stage (the World Cup) is a dream opportunity for any worthy sportsman. I'm sure people who were trashed by Mohamad Ali on his way up still talk about it with pride as old men. And anyway, who says we could not turn England over !!
By the way, the ruling on Domestic based players is that 4 must be named in the squad of 20 which usually leaves 1 in the match day squad of 17. And despite that there are a few good Domestic players breaking through who in a few years time with good experience in between will be well up for it.
