Well tbf to the Head of Collite, they are doing very important research in the area of "getting money to grow on trees", its a small price to pay for possible massive returns.

There is no excuse for that. The Taoiseach has a beautiful house as well, Steward's Lodge, that he can and should live in.

Well, the first thing that we need to do is immediately cut our equivalent positions to the UK salary minus 15%!

752,568 euro is simply crazy for the head of the ESB.

For example, there is a huge difference in living standard between somebody earning 100,000 a year and earning 200,000. So the head of the ESB would surely still be wiling to do the job if he was 'only' going to be paid 300,000 a year, which, in fairness, in probably a reasonable wage for the head of such a vital semi-state body.

You see the problem is, that when we read that somebody's salary is 300000, 500000, 800000 ...the differences just becomes meaningless, whereas in reality, a 100 grand difference is an enormous sum of money..about 1100 a week extra after tax.

I don't think people working for state bodies or semi-state bodies should be able to earn over 350,000; we have to remember just how enormous a sum that is and that if a possible candidate for a leading role wasn't happy with it, then the role should be just offered to somebody else who is happy with the salary.

I believe the Taoiseach should be entitled to a high wage; he (or eventually she) is in charge of the country and their wage should reflect that. 180,000 seems about right.
Ministers should be entitled to 130,000 or so. Backbenchers, about 80,000.

Bankers can earn whatever their banks profits allow them, as far as I'm concerned. But when their banks fcuk up, they should be out of a job, end of.
The heads of nationalised banks shouldn't be on salaries of over 300000.
