So far for Ive tried: Golf shoes for walking outdoors (it works!) and rope on the tyres for the car. Any other tips to fight back at the ice?

Socks over your shoes is pretty cheap and works quite well

If riding a bike in snow/ice, reduce tyre pressure to the absolute minimum you can get away with, and do not use the front brake.

Bend your knees slightly. Lean forward so your feet are right under you. Walk flat footed and like a penguin. Keep your hands out of your pockets. Always look ahead to see what is coming. Stop from time to time to stop your momentum. Be extra careful on every single slope you have to walk on. Never presume an area is ice free.

If you feel nervous about driving or are terrified of driving on ice.

Then please stay off the road. Don't take a chance at your expense or others.

    €25- in Millets.. they're a god send!.

Fits in seconds, and of course comes off in seconds when you walk into (for example) shops etc.

Great for joggers, walkers, dog walkers etc.

I agree totally! The only problem I have with them is that I can't slide on the ice when I want to. They are really grippy, and they look good too!!:p

Get two of those table salt dispensers on tape to each shoe, have then pour at least 6 inches ahead of each shoe so each footstep kicks a spray of salt into your next footstep and gives it a few milliseconds to take hold.

If possible, don't go cheap, get one with the little sprinkly holes for an exen distribution, you don't want to just drop all your salt in the first 5 steps.

    It works.
