Was just reading about this on BBC News :p
In the UK, the Nexus S will come free with £35 per month contracts or will be offered unlocked - to be used on any carrier - for £549.

What were Google thinking when they thought up of this? The HTC Desire is for all intents and purposes a rebadged Nexus One. Now the Nexus S is just a rebadged version of the Galaxy S.

If anything it'll be a Galaxy S without the buggy ROMs. Good but not a real upgrade on the Nexus One.

I'm setting my sights on either a Desire HD or the new Sony Ericsson Z1 "PSP Phone".

TBH I wouldn't mind a Galaxy, without all the Samsung sh!te.

..but yeah, the HD does look like a better buy right now.

I've been using a Galaxy S for the last few weeks and its an excellent phone hardware wise with an excellent screen, is big but not too big, the only issue is the mess of Android Samsung have made.

A slightly improved version running vanilla 2.3 and will get Android upgrades first into the future is a good thing, not ground breaking like the Nexus One but it was never going to be.

I'll definitely be having one of these, I don't think there's a better choice out there at the minute, anything HTC do has awful Sense on it and Sony Ericsson phones are always a let down.

NS looks like a minor upgrade of the SGS. I bet a lot of things that bug people about the SGS are been ironed out, lag etc.

Hopefully since it is so similar, it wont be long before Cyanogen or someone makes a port to the SGS.

Well - I will get one at launch. Being able to get Google pushed updates instead of laggy headset mfg updates is more than worth it but I do like my toys.
The option not to upgrade the storage memory is a kicker, why not stay with user replaceable MicroSD cards? My current 16gb stick is fairly full with music and videos.
No trackball. Now I only used it a bit on the NexusOne and even less on my DesireZ so don't think I'm gonna miss it.

If they added a notification LED all my issues with the SGS would be sorted. Still looks great. TechCrunch has a review up....

I'm surprised at this phone. Still seems to be missing a few things as pointed out above.

    - notification light
    - microSD slot
    (- plasticy feel)

Things that are almost 'standard' on other smart phones *cough* HTC

I was worried I'd be disappointed about my recent purchase of SGS when this was announced, but not yet. Yes, I'd like a flash on the camera and for Samsung (and networks) to drastically speed up the release of core Android updates, but neither are deal breakers considering I dont use the camera properly, and Odin allows for flashing to CM6 or whatever.

I think google made a mistake choosing samsung over HTC.

*Disclaimer, I have never owned a HTC phone - kinda wish I got one rather than the SGS though.

Well, once the Nexus S comes out yea can be sure the cost of the Nexus One will drop :)

I'm underwhelmed. The only thing I'd be interested in is NFC. Samsungs are too plasticky for me. Otherwise, I'm delighted with my Desire HD. If it was another HTC rather than Samsung, I'd be more interested and probably have waited for this.

Same here. Thought this phone would be much more of a killer. I'm especially left down by the 512MB RAM - it'll become outdated very quickly particularly with the Orion dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip coming out shortly into new gen phones. Major fail here imho.

It may have come down to cost of the A9. No point putting it in if it makes the phone $800 or w/e

Also battery technology for phones hasn't really advanced all that far since 2002 or so with Li+. You'd be better off with a slower processor and a battery life of more than 6 hours standby.

What on earth do you need a dual core proc on a phone for yet anyway? I could understand a tablet which are coming to replace or eat into the netbook market (also little innovation in a couple years). 1 ghz proc should be more than enough for a phone.

I have a pentium 3 processor computer at home 500 Mhz. Does everything I need, just a little slowly! 1ghz is plenty for a PHONE!

Just got my Nexus S - have to say even though the stats don't say its much better than my Nexus One, it still seems like a marked improvement.

You can really notice the extra speed by the CPU, everything is super smooth.

The CPU, although the same clock speed 1 Ghz is hummingbird by Samsung rather than the Qualcom Snapdragon. Much faster from what I've read though I havent looked into why.

    Apples and oranges either way.

I'd like to see a comparison of SGS and NS both stock vs stock and lag fix etc.

Would you mind posting a Quadrant score? I'm quite curious how it compares to my lag fixed 2.1 SGS.
    Thanks,
