Hi, I got my daughter a Nintendo Wii pack for Xmas but I was just wondering if the graphics quality would match that of an Xbox 360 or would it be more like the old Xbox, played the old xbox years ago but not too up to date on these things nowadays! :o

    Thanks.

Well the Wii's not a HD system, so it doesn't match up to the PS3 or the 360. That said, I still think some games on it are lovely looking, but by the nature of it it's a far more "cutsie" console than the others. I never played the original XBox much so I can't comment on how it compares to that.

To me, it looks about the same as an original xbox or the original gamecube (it's basically little more than a fancy gamecube). Most of the time the graphics are still adequate because they tend to favour cartoony artwork. If it is trying to do something more realistic it is no-where near Xbox 360 or PS3 and is not really any better than a gamecube.

That's very true, it's very closely related to Gamecube hardware. Masterstroke by Nintendo really, very little R&D + innovative controller = $$$

If you have a HD TV then get the a Component cable or if you have a HD TV then get an RGB scart cable otherwise it's going to look awful with the pack in cables.

    +1 on this.

I changed the cable from the one that comes with the Wii to a Component one and it made a huge difference. If you have a TV with Component sockets, get a component cable, it's a very noticeable improvement...

Rose tinted glasses there. N64 looks terrible compared to the Gamecube let alone the Wii. The Wii looks great when a good developer uses good art. Still think the Mario Galaxy games look amazing and Muramasa Demon Sword was the best looking game last year and on the Wii.

The Wii is about at the same level in terms of graphics as, maybe a bit better, some of the better original XBOX games such as Dead or Alive and Halo 2, which still look pretty decent today.

No way. The N64 had some horrible early 3-D graphics.

The Wii is basically an overclocked Gamecube with a new controller. I have the component cable and it looks pretty well but wouldn't be up to the standard of the others, it depends on what kind of games you play though.

Compare Super Mario 64 to Sunshine or Galaxy and you'll see a serious difference, some N64 games had me wondering if the console was even capable of rendering circles.

TBH, the graphic processing power on the wii does suck compared to the Xbox 360 or the PS3.

However, the wii doesn't focus on real life looking games.

For games like... Metriod, SSBB, Super Mario galaxy, New super mario bros, Monster Hunter Tri, etc, they've all been made to suit the wii, while still looking amazing.
